And so we run down to the wire, Saturday looms large.
Thanks to all the Division 5 towns and communities for engaging with all the candidates over the past weeks, especially for organising the many forums.
These are times like we have never seen before. The script has been well and truly thrown out the window.
I know there will be a lot of people hurting, physically, financially and emotionally.
All leaders will need to demonstrate understanding, empathy and compassion. It won’t simply be business as usual.
I am uncomfortable that the election has evolved this way.
That more was not done earlier to move voting to full postal or phone voting.
That while more and more activities were being restricted, voting was seemingly immune.
That people are conflicted over the choice of not voting and being fined, versus the health of themselves and their loved ones.
The expert medical advice is voting is safe. Safer than the supermarket when you follow the precautions, bring your own pen/pencil, exercise social distancing and frequently walk your hands.
Should you choose to vote, and only you can make that choice, I sincerely believe that my skills, knowledge and experience make me a solid choice to help navigate through this immediate emergency, and then rebuild our people, economy and prosperity for the years ahead.
Virus or no virus, we still live in a great place.
I would be humbled and proud to be your representative for Division 5 in council.
